 Retreat Wayanad.
This was a place that more than matched our expectations. Set in the middle of a Jungle surrounded by electric Elephant fences we were shown to our log cabin which over looked a open space and waterhole. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Manu introduced himself after returning with some visitors whom he had taken in a trek. They came back all jumpy as Manu had heard warning calls and movement and so decided it was not safe to continue. Now we were getting excited as to what we would encounter during our two day stay. πŸ—πŸ†πŸ…πŸ’.
Even our driver was directed to rooms as no sleeping in car as dangerous.

First of call sat on our rustic balcony with a cup of tea and armed with our binoculars. We watched  deer, mongoose and wild boar appeared.
Lunch was fantastic so promises of great food as well.
Had guided walk to spot the large squirrel that lives there and see where Elephant cross etc. Back before dark as not safe on roads walking then πŸ˜€.
Whilst having dinner warning calls sounded off and Manu quickly bought his touch to our balcony to try and spot eyes of the predator. There was a look out tower but not allowed there between 6pm and 7am. Went to bed listening to warning calls and the sound of the jungle. Magic. Awake early to watch across the open space for anything moving and just our luck THICK FOG!!!! Which did not clear till after 9.30am.
Off for a jungle walk in tracks made by animals. Manu took us where there was recent dung, elephant rubbings in trees and hidden waterholes. You could see where tigers lay in the heat of the day. Little scary as we were crawling under and over bushes and trees. There is a tiger called “Snow White “ and she has three 11month old Cubs and this was her domain. Paw marks and fresh poo. Manu did tell us this was not find a animal walk and any signs they were around we would be heading back. Great walk with a great guide. Yummy lunch then off on a safari in “Nagarhole reserve”. 3hrs in a jeep and still the Tiger was not seen. Lots of other animals though. Back for a evening jungle camp fire with the local tribes. It was great having soup round a camp fire and watching a pretty spicy chutney being made on a piece of granite. Great jeep ride back spotting a snake crossing the road so pleased it was outside. Also Gaur (huge Buffaloes ) standing on the side of the road.Mighty animals these are. Back to be served a fab dinner. Plates have to cleared away as the monkeys jump in quick and when you leave your little hut all must be locked up. Next day we reluctantly had to leave this magic place with a great guide( Manu) and staff. Def put this one on our list to return.
